It is a foundational component of the AVID System designed to be embedded into the daily instruction of all elementary classrooms. At our school site all students in grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 have to opportunity to practice these effective AVID Elementary strategies that include the use of:
- Planners that record school assignments as well as long term projects
- Organizational tools that provide self monitoring and assessment
- Note-taking strategies (2 or 3 column graphic organizer)
- Levels of questioning (higher level cognitive and critical thinking skills)
Our Grade K students will also participate in AVID and practice effective strategies that include the use of:
- Planners that record school assignments
- Organizational tools (backpack and containers to store school supplies)
- Note-taking strategies (2 or 3 column graphic organizer)
- Levels of questioning (cognitive and critical thinking skills)
This is an exciting program for our students that offer foundational skills as they move towards college and career readiness skills. Coupled with the implementation of these AVID strategies, our goal is to also build a strong vehicle for communication between home and school.
