Join Us! Honolulu 5K for Kids

Have you or your family made & already broken your New Year’s resolution(s)? Well here’s a suggestion for a healthy one that you & your family can make & keep…
The Honolulu 5 K is an event to help promote health & fitness for Hawaii’s children as well as their families to create a more active and healthy lifestyle. The date has been set for Sunday, April 28. There will be a timed 5 K run and an untimed 1 mile fun run/walk for keiki and adults through downtown Honolulu. Proceeds from the event will be distributed to the schools based on each individual school’s participation and will be used to enhance or improve the physical fitness, play and athletic programs within the schools.
Sign up to promote health & fitness for your family, as well as help raise funds for KES by copying & mailing in the entry form included with this newsletter, or registering online at http://honolulu5k.org/. If you’re hesitant because your family has never run/walked a 5 K (3.1 miles) before, you have plenty of time to get in shape for it. There are many websites offering advice on how to go from “the couch to 5 K”. The web address of one such site is www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml. Don’t get turned off to running by starting off too fast or going too far. This website, as well as other sites, offer suggestions as to how to ease into running gradually. In two months your family will be able to go from being couch potatoes to runners able to complete a 5 K.
On-line early entry fee ends on February 28th. So sign up before the fee goes up & start training today…
